An artificial intelligence-driven music production company has been acquired by Apple.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Apple has purchased a start-up called AI Music, which employs artificial intelligence to make custom music for users. The acquisition adds technology that may be utilised throughout Apple’s whole audio product line.

Recent weeks saw the completion of the acquisition of AI Music, a London-based company that was launched in 2016.. Prior to the acquisition, the company had approximately two dozen employees.

According to a copy of the company’s now-defunct website, the technology developed by AI Music can be used to make soundtracks utilising royalty-free music and AI. The concept is to create dynamic soundtracks that vary in response to user engagement…. During a video game, for example, a song may vary to match the atmosphere, while music during a workout could alter to match the user’s level of effort.

A statement on AI Music’s LinkedIn page stated that its mission is to “provide consumers the power to choose the music they want, seamlessly modified to match their needs, or create dynamic solutions that adapt to their audiences.”

Previous agreements with advertising businesses allowed the start-up to develop more engaging advertisements that played various music depending on the audience.

A spokeswoman from Apple, which is based in Cupertino, California, declined to comment on the situation.

Despite its small size, the acquisition is one of the few made by the IT behemoth in the past year, according to the company. In addition to Primephonic, Apple’s most recent announced acquisition was also a music company: Earlier this year, Apple acquired a business that provided a classical music streaming service, which it plans to integrate into an Apple Music app later this year.

Last year, according to documents filed in October, Apple drastically curtailed its acquisition spending, allotting only US$33 million (S$44.3 billion) to transaction payments throughout the course of the fiscal year. Compared to US$1.5 billion in 2020 and US$624 million in 2019, this is a decrease of almost 30%.###
